The Danish designer and interior designer is considered one of the most influential designers of the 20th century. He transferred the psychedelic aesthetics of Pop Art into the profession of interior design. Panton was one of the first designers to use materials such as plastic, foam or rubber in an innovative way.
Nevertheless, the innovator’s designs fell out of fashion during the 1970s. In the mid-1990s, triggered by a Vogue cover with Kate Moss sitting on a Panton Chair, the artist’s revival began. For example, Spiegel had the “Snack Bar” designed by Panton in 1969 reinstalled in the publishing house in Hamburg’s Hafencity, which was newly built in 2011.
Verner Panton died in Copenhagen in 1998.
