Description
An Island in the Air is an Original Photograph realized by Urs Luthi in 1975. from the portfolio “Un’isola nell’aria”, edition of 75 copies. Hand-signed, numbered, and dated. Very good condition including a white cardboard passpartout (60 x 50m). Urs Lthi (born 10 September 1947) is a Swiss photographer, painter and performance artist. Lthi attended the Zurich School of Applied Arts from 1963 to 1964. He then worked as a graphic designer and freelance artist. In 1966 he held his first solo exhibition Pinksize with paintings with Pop art influence in the Beat Mder gallery in Bern. In 1969 he switched to photography and in 1970 he collected some success at the Galerie Toni Gerber in Bern with a series of androgynous self-portraits. In 1980 he began painting large acrylic paintings to find his own visual language. At the end of the 80s he switched to art installations. Since 1994 he has been a professor at the Kassel Art Academy. During the 2001 Venice Biennale, he transformed the Swiss pavilion entitled “Trademarks, low action, Game II, Run for your life …” into an installation where he presented himself, ironically, lying in the center of the room, smiling, dressed in overalls, with sports shoes and sunglasses.
