Description
A lively and energetic city street scene composition, executed in oil onto canvas and dated 1998 by Swedish artist Uno Vallman (1913-2004) whose works are included in the Swedish National Museum, the Swedish Modern Museum, and also in the collections of Lyndon Johnson, Jimmy Carter, and the Tessin Institute in Paris. Containing elements of fauvism and expressionism, this striking painting presents a bustling street filled with people strolling the sidewalk. Behind them lies a street with blue cars, followed by a view of the city skyline. An array of rich and uplifting colours as well as distinct energetic and intuitive brushstrokes fill the canvas, imbuing the work with a sense of dynamism. The artist has also used black outlines that provide a sketch-like quality that emphasises the silhouettes of the buildings, cars, and figures. This oil on canvas is housed in a complementary robust frame with gold leaves, and with an inner linen border. The painting is in excellent vintage condition, and the frame has some scuffs to its edges. Size: 64.5 x 56 cm (including frame)
