An oustanding semi-abstract figurative oil composition, painted in 1957 by the established Swedish artist Ivar Morsing (1919-2009), whose works have been exhibited in public collections including the National Museum in Stockholm, Moderna Museet in Stockholm, Kalmar Museum, and Jnkping Museum. The artwork captures the poised and elegant presence of five Spanish ladies, all dressed in black outfits, seated side by side. Semi-abstract in nature, the painting omits realistic details, including facial features, to focus on the interplay of colour and brushwork. The artist has masterfully reduced the composition to blocks of contrasting colours, creating depth and form within the scene. The backdrop is a subdued nude brown shade, providing a calm and neutral canvas that allows the figures to stand out. The overall colour palette is restrained, featuring shades of sand, brown, and black, with subtle hints of deep red and blue peeking through, adding an underlying complexity to the painting. This oil on board is housed in a complementary wood frame with an inner linen border.
