Aldo Mazza (Milan, 6 July 1880 Gavirate, 26 July 1964) was an Italian painter, advertiser and illustrator.
He was the son of Adelio, an accountant and dialect poet, and nephew of the romantic school painter Giuseppe Mazza (1817-1884), who had had Francesco Hayez as his teacher.
Aldo Mazza grew up in an atmosphere marked by art and patriotism – his father and uncle had participated in the defense of Milan against the Austrians of Marshal Josef Radetzky.
At the Brera Academy he had Cesare Tallone as his teacher

He received his first assignment as an author of satirical cartoons from “Guerin Meschino”, he also drew for “Il Numero”, for “L’Illustrazione Italiana”, for “Il Secolo” (from 1924) and for “Il Pasquino”.
He was linked to the group of caricaturists of the “Frigidarium”. He participated in the “Great Italian Exhibition of Caricature and Humour” in 1914, organized by the newspaper “Il Numero”.
In 1983, the exhibition Political satire in the drawings of Aldo Mazza was set up in Milan.
He worked as a poster designer above all for the Bolognese company Chappuis, for the Bertarelli graphic arts and for Ricordi, creating around sixty posters, including advertising and political ones; he also designed theater posters and calendars.
He designed a Shell advertising campaign on postcards and during the Great War he created postcards for the National Loan. A large group of his posters, created during the Great War, are in Rome, at the Library of Modern and Contemporary History and at the central municipal library of Milan.
Aldo Mazza presented a portrait of his wife at the 1911 Turin exhibition.
His painting Del Vespero, influenced by divisionism, was exhibited at the 1906 Venice Biennale.
In 1924, at the Villa Reale in Monza, she participated in the exhibition of contemporary female portraits.
He had a personal exhibition at the “Pesaro” Gallery in Milan in 1935. His paintings were presented at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts and at the 1st International Colonial Art Exhibition in Rome.
His favorite subjects were female figures, landscapes, floral compositions.
Portrait of a woman in a black tunic (owned by Belotti-La Villa) is from 1912.
In 1978, at the International Gallery of Varese, at the exhibition Amore di terra Varese, portraits painted by Mazza were exhibited.
A collection of calendars and postcards is at the Achille Bertarelli Civic Collection of Prints, in Milan. The collection of advertising posters by Ferdinando Salce today at the Salce Collection National Museum includes dozens of posters by Aldo Mazza.
Letters and documents concerning him are preserved in the Vespasiano Bignami Fund, at the Art Library of the Castello Sforzesco.
At the National Museum of Science and Technology Leonardo da Vinci in Milan, in 1975, by testamentary legacy of Paola Farnesi, widow of Aldo Mazza, the following arrived en masse: the complete furnishings of the dining room of Paola Farnesi’s apartment in Milan, Duse square n. 1, and 12 paintings by Aldo Mazza, together with some paintings by Salvatore and Giuseppe Mazza.
