Description

Chateau De Choisy View is an original print realized by Anonymous artist at the end of XVIII century (about 1760). Titled below ”Vue du Chateau de Choisy le Roy du ct du jardin”. Mixed colored engraving hand colored. Good conditions except for some stains on paper. Include passepartout: 41.6 x 52.5 This kind of artwork is known as optical views, a particular kind of prints, which, if viewed through a specific device called zograscope or ”optical box”, give the illusion of relief and accented perspective. They were created and mainly diffused in the second half of the 18th century. In the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, there were many popular specialty establishments in Paris, Augsburg, and London which produced optical viewing devices and special engravings to be viewed through them. They are usually etched and invariably designed to be seen through a viewing machine, with consequent reversals of text and image. They often show monumental buildings (palaces, churches or town halls) or characteristic parts of towns. More rarely they show portraits, depict moralistic or biblical themes, or historical events. This print represents a view of Chteau de Choisy a royal French residence in the commune of Choisy-le-Roi in the Val-de-Marne department, not far from Paris. The commune was given its present name by Louis XV. In the scene, the men of the court are in the gardens of the splendid castle as they walk and converse amiably. This artwork is shipped from Italy. Under existing legislation, any artwork in Italy created over 70 years ago by an artist who has died requires a licence for export regardless of the works market price. The shipping may require additional handling days to require the licence according to the final destination of the artwork.
